Born in Minori on the Amalfi Coast, Gennaro Contaldo is known as the Italian legend who taught Jamie Oliver all he knows about Italian cooking. Gennaro’s quintessentially Italian spirit and positive nature has made him a TV favourite and he regularly appears on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen as well as his TV series with the late Antonio Carluccio (BBC2’s ‘Two Greedy Italians’) and Channel 4’s ‘Jamie’s Italy’ with Jamie Oliver.
With over ten cookbooks already under his belt, he’s now celebrating the publication of Gennaro’s Limoni – an ode to lemons in all their versatility and vibrancy.
In conversation for this virtual event, Gennaro will share the importance of the lemon as a symbol for his homeland, why his addiction to this citrus fruit has never ceased, and how a simple lemon can transform a dish. In Italian cooking, the lemon is as essential as olive oil and salt and no part of it is wasted – Gennaro will explore how flesh, pith and skin are chopped into salads, juice is drizzled over meat and veggies and used in desserts and drinks, the leaves are used to wrap meat, fish and cheese, while the aromatic zest adds complexity to a dish’s flavour.
“Lemons are precious to me; a symbol of my beloved homeland, they stir up fond memories of my childhood as well as having a wealth of uses. They cleanse, refresh, preserve and are an absolute essential in the home.”
Don’t miss the opportunity to spend a delicious evening with the brilliant cook, in celebration of the humble lemon and an exciting collection of inspirational recipes.
