The son of a South Yorkshire coal miner, Brian Blessed trained at the Bristol Vic and went onto to become one of the most respected actors of his generation, equally adept at comedy and tragedy, Shakespeare and sci-fi, musical theatre, and classical opera.
He led the Roman Empire in I Claudius and the Gungans of Naboo in The Phantom Menace. He created the role of Old Deuteronomy in Cats for Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Baron Bomburst in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium. He has played kings, princes, lords, and paupers; his thunderous voice can be heard in heavy metal albums, Disney cartoons, and satellite navigation systems.
