Set in the late 90s in the run-up to an election, ITV’s Political Editor Robert Peston’s The Whistleblower follows journalist Gil Peck as he navigates the corridors of power to bag the biggest stories. But when Gil’s sister Clare dies in an apparent hit-and-run, he begins to believe it was no accident. Clare knew some of the most sensitive secrets in government – could one of them have got her killed?

Join Robert in conversation for this virtual event, as he explores the inspiration behind his timely and page-turning thriller. He’ll explore why he wanted to chronicle the political and economic forces that have created today's world - a world that often feels stranger than fiction – and why it was important to set the novel in the 1990s, when today's generation of political and business leaders came of age, and when the traditional dividing lines between political parties became confusingly blurred.

Combining his unprecedented knowledge of the inner workings of politics, business, and power together with his unparalleled sense of a good story - having broken so many over his career - this promises to be a fascinating evening with one of the UK’s top political journalists.

Anushka Asthana is deputy political editor at ITV news- she’s worked in the parliamentary lobby for over a decade, including st the Observer, Times, Sky News and  as Guardian political editor. She has worked in the US for the Washington post and most recently helped launch and present the Guardian’s award winning flagship podcast, Today in Focus.
