When South Korean illustrator Henn Kim was a teenager, she stopped speaking for almost two years. While her depression and anxiety had rendered her mute, her mind was coming alive with words and images.

Now, she’s publishing a hauntingly beautiful debut collection of graphic poetry about loneliness, love and existing in our world. For Henn Kim, her art is extremely intimate and acts as her form of therapy. It allows her to process her day-to-day anxieties and find moments of healing and reflection. Her illustrations have resonated with people over the globe, from nearly 1 million followers on Instagram to collaborating on campaigns with UNICEF to creating the iconic covers of Sally Rooney’s novels.

'My life used to be black. That doesn’t mean that my life has always been in the dark. I just had more shadow and darkness than other people from my depression. Ironically, I’ve been inspired by those shadows and darkness and I could learn how to see myself clearly in the dark. That has influenced my art and my book.'

Join her in conversation for this exclusive event as she explores the complicated emotions and universal experiences that she renders into her accessible art – from heartbreak and loneliness, friendship and mental health, to insomnia and kindness

When words are not enough to describe our emotions, this event is a friend in the dark.
