Jake is a man in his mid-thirties who has struggled with his mental health throughout his life. With suicide being the biggest cause of death for men under 35, the story of his mental health journey is more necessary than ever. Dr Alex, whose younger teenage brother took his own life last year just weeks before he was due to start medical school, has been campaigning for better mental health provision and is working with the government to help shape policy on improving support for young people in schools, colleges and universities.

For this exclusive event, Dr Alex will speak to Jake about his experience with mental health, why mental wellbeing is so important, and how we can explode the stereotypes and stigma that surround the topic. Jake will reveal how he took back control of his life from the clutches of depression, left everything behind, and began a 3000-mile walk around the British mainland – the subject of his inspirational memoir. The whole challenge took him just over a year to do, and through the people he met and the kindness of strangers who offered him a bed for the night or a hot meal, he was able to finally have a big, honest conversation about his own mental health, and that of others.

This promises to be an enlightening, frank, and ultimately hopeful discussion about one of the most pressing subjects of our time. Do not miss it.
